THAT Guy Returns!

I don't usually do more than one post a day, but I can't help myself.

Ok, a while back I wrote a post on THAT guy. Today, he's out of control. Even as I type this he's so jazzed up that he's visibly twitching in his seat. He's shouting. He's gesticulating. Why is he upset? He thinks that the government is denying minorities their Constitutional "right" to fly.

Is it just me or are there several things wrong with this line of thinking? First, there IS no Constitutional right to fly . . . maybe I'm missing something. Second, um . . . I'm not aware of the government denying any minority group of flight? (I should mention this comes in the context of a lecture on racial profiling in which we are discussing whether certain ethic groups should be screened more than others. Last I checked, screening didn't equate with denying the person of flight, but hey. Whatever.) This post isn't meant to discuss that topic . . . . Racial profiling is way too heavy for me to discuss on this nutty blog. Instead, this post is meant to demonstrate that this guy is seriously out of touch with reality.

This is just an example of what I am subjected to on a daily basis at law school. Good times. Where the hell is Mrs. Fields when you need her? Or more importantly, a beer?

Man . . . his shouting is forcing me to pay attention. Now THAT sucks.

"constitutional right to fly"
and he's a law student??? really????? well, I suppose like any profession, it takes all kinds. At some point, you'll have to let us know what kind of law he goes into so that none of us poor schleps accidently hire this nutbag! :D

You poor girl. You need to just start bringing coke in a plastic bottle with rum or vodka or everclear in it. If that doesn't work, chunk the bottle at him.

I'm sorry - and totally understand your need to rant about it! I email certain friends all day long when my "THAT guy" and "THAT female" are interfering with my "right" to live without stupidity around me. Once you get your law degree, can you work on getting the Constitution amended to include that? Please?

You know. Vodka is clear and has no smell... You could easily smuggle that in... and then you WOULD believe there is a right to fly. lol

that is hard... got to wonder sometimes what people are thinking or better yet... are they thinking??

oh and you could always try hot chocolate with peppermint schaups... no one would ever be the wiser... not that I would ever have done such a thing!

I see you in class or the library on your computer blowing off steam on your blog and I grin at the notion that some people actually think you are working seriously. I wish I had that option in my day. Stick to blogging chugging the vodka may cause some heads to turn.

Oh good god. Tell him to shut the hell up already.

And I agree with brittany. Bring Vodka in a jug next time.

"constitutional right to fly", is that in the same amendment as my "constitutional right to drive like a jerk and run people off the road"? Last I checked, airlines are privately owned. That would be like him having a "constitutional right" to come into my living room and watch my t.v.

Are the other law students buying into his crap?

I always wonder what the professors of the world think when the "thay guy"s of the world start chattering. i know some of my prof look visibly annoyed and others eat it up.

I have a That Guy, I call him Mr. 70's. The other day, he tried to convince us that George Washington wasn't really our first President. I had never met a conspiracy theorist in person until now. I really want to tie him up and leave him in the stairwell.

Not to get too heavy, but there is at least a constitutional right to travel, and the fact that airlines are private companies hasn't mattered in checking discrimination since, oh, Heart of Atlanta v. U.S. in the 1960s. I still think you're right, but I thought I'd nerd it up and point out he's not that stupid.

PBB - I agree that there's a Constitutional right to travel (i.e. interstate commerce, etc.) but what I think is wrong is the fact he was asserting a Constitutional right to AIR travel which I think is different. Also, yes, discrimination won't fly per Hart which as I recall was a hotel case (pun intended) . . . but that's also different than what he was asserting. He was asserting a Constitutional right to AIR travel which, frankly, doesn't exist.

1) What is wrong with racial profiling, if it catches criminals?
2) I had a classmate who drank heavily before, during and after class. All I can say is heaven help the vistims of racial profiling, he may be their only hope of beating the rap.
